Former Auburn cornerback JD Rhym is expected to transfer to Houston, according to a report from On3’s Pete Nakos.

Rhym has not made an impact during his time at Auburn, failing to officially record any stats.

But he’s a former highly touted recruit, a four-star prospect wanted by dozens of top-notch Power Five programs. So Houston will be getting a player with considerable athletic upside.

On3 had the following scouting report on Rhym coming out of high school:

“Instinctive defensive back who has worked as a safety and cornerback for one of the top high school programs in south Georgia. Has long arms, which aid in coverage and as a tackler. Demonstrates good play speed, particularly as a safety. Closes distances quickly and shows some physicality as a striker and finisher. Takes on blocks with gusto.

“Played safety as a senior and corner as a junior. Would be considered a hyper physical corner or an advanced cover safety, depending on where he ends up at the college level. Does not have verified athletic markers.”

Prior to enrolling at Auburn, JD Rhym was ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 162 overall player in the nation in the 2022 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

Houston lands LSU linebacker transfer

Former LSU linebacker Christian Brathwaite has announced his commitment to Houston out of the NCAA transfer portal.

Brathwaite played in five games for the Tigers in 2023. He redshirted his true freshman season in 2023, as the fifth game he played in was the bowl, which no longer counts toward the four games a player can play and still redshirt. He recorded three tackles in his five appearances.

Before enrolling at LSU, Brathwaite played high school football at Cy Ranch (Texas) High School, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 400 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services.
