The Auburn Tigers have released their depth chart for their Week 1 opener against Alabama A&M on Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

As Hugh Freeze enters a new campaign with Auburn, he’ll be hoping to improve upon his first season on The Plains. Check out his depth chart for Year 2 below, shared to X, formerly known as Twitter, by Justin Hokanson of Auburn Live.

Moreover, the Tigers are heading into their second season under Freeze hoping added familiarity means a lot. Quarterback Payton Thorne was just so-so a year ago, but Freeze has noted there will be much more of the playbook available this year now that he has a better understanding of the system.

Thorne should at least have some better options to work with this year than he has had in the past at Auburn. That starts with former five-star-plus freshman Cam Coleman, who might make a huge difference in eating away at that huge early point spread.

Coleman has been a standout since the moment he arrived on campus, and he said he’s developing a nice rapport with Thorne at this point.

“My connection with Payton Thorne has definitely grown a lot,” Coleman said. “Our chemistry on and off the field, just getting to know him as a person. Getting to know him as a person, he’ll just learn me more, I learn him more.

“I told him how I like the ball being thrown and he told me where he wants to be on certain routes. So just really building that chemistry.”

More on Auburn vs. Alabama A&M

The anticipation is growing for Auburn‘s campaign, and they’ll begin their season with a bit of a tune-up out of the gates, taking on Alabama A&M in a game that could be a lopsided one.

Team chemistry will be important if the Tigers are to win. So too will be retooling the defense. Auburn finished 2023 a fairly pedestrian 43rd nationally in scoring defense and 47th nationally in total defense.

Veteran linebacker Eugene Asante should help lead a unit that is looking for improvement at every level. There’s plenty of experience across the board, with up to seven seniors potentially starting on defense.

Auburn will look to take on some hype and expectations, and set the tone for their season against Alabama A&M on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET in Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be carried on ESPN+ and SECN+.
