Hugh Freeze & Co. have started the 2025 recruiting cycle off with a bang, building what has become an elite defensive class. Of the Tigers’ nine commitments, all six blue-chip prospects come on the defensive side of the ball. Five of them play on the defensive line.

Now, Auburn is looking to build some momentum with the offense — and that starts with the quarterback.

On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons talked about Auburn’s recruitment of Corona (Calif.) Centennial top-100 quarterback Husan Longstreet on The Inside Scoop football recruiting show.

“It goes along with the visit. How does the visit go? I think getting him on campus, obviously step No. 1,” Simmons said. “I think Auburn’s still trying to identify their QB board. They obviously like Longstreet, other guys like Juju Lewis are in play. TJ Lateef, another West Coast QB in California is on their radar as well.”

Texas A&M also pushing for Longstreet

Longstreet released a list of eight top schools in his recruitment back in November. With head coaching changes across the league and down his list, Simmons believes that list has been scrapped.

“I think that that list has kind of been scrapped,” Simmons said. “I think the two teams right now — Auburn and Texas A&M. A&M had him on campus Feb. 3 for the first time, he’ll be back to College Station later on this spring and summer for visits. I think they’re kind of setting the pace.

“Auburn has a chance to make a pretty strong impression on him and his family coming up in a few weeks. I think Auburn definitely is a player in this race, getting him on campus to make that trip and follow through with it and then make a strong impression, we’ll see what happens next after that.”

Husan Longstreet Recruiting Profile

Longstreet is the nation’s No. 73 overall prospect and No. 6 quarterback in the 2025 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 5 prospect in California.

On3 Director of Scouting and Ranking Charles Power:

“Husan Longstreet certainly touts one of the strongest arms of the group along with Bryce Underwood. The ball jumps out of the Corona (Calif.) Centennial passer’s hand with tangible zip.”
