Auburn transfer QB Holden Geriner commits to Texas State
Former Auburn quarterback Holden Geriner will transfer to play for Texas State in 2025, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported. Geriner spent the past three seasons with the Tigers and brings two years of eligibility with him to San Marcos.
Geriner spent the past two seasons third on Auburn’s depth chart and will look to get more playing time with the Bobcats. He should have an opportunity to win the starting job at Texas State and show what he is capable of.
As a recruit, Geriner was a four-star prospect out of Benedictine Military School in Savannah, Georgia, in 2022. He ranked as the No. 224 overall player and No. 15 quarterback in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Geriner played in a total of eight games across his three seasons at Auburn. He ends his career at the school 9-of-20 passing for 116 yards and one interception.
Additionally, Holden Geriner ranks as the No. 1,071 overall player and No. 86 quarterback according to On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings. Texas State is coming off of an 8-5 finish this past season and will look to keep that success going with Geriner aboard.

Johnson hasn’t seen any action through his first two seasons with Auburn. However, with three other defensive backs from Auburn entering the transfer portal, Johnson will return next season and attempt to contribute on the field for the Tigers.
CJ Johnson played high school football at Paetow High (TX), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 613 overall player and No. 57 safety in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Football runs in Johnson’s blood. His family members, L.J. Johnson (SMU), Johnathan Johnson (LSU), Brian Johnson (Mississippi Valley State), Michael Johnson (LSU), Terry Johnson (TCU) all played college football.
Now, CJ Johnson will look to make his mark at the collegiate level as well. Auburn finished the 2024 campaign with a 5-7 record and 2-6 mark in conference play. It was a step back for the Tigers, who won six games in Hugh Freeze’s first season at the helm in 2023.
