Odds for Auburn vs. Alabama

Given that Alabama his the home team tonight, the Tide opened up as 3.5-point favorites against Auburn. They’re also slight favorites on the money line at -170.

On the flip side, the Tigers have some juice at +140 to go into what’s likely to be a hostile Coleman Coliseum to pick up their sixth straight win to begin SEC play. The over/under has been set at 161.5 total points.

Final score predictions

Our friend KenPom has liked Alabama all year long, especially their offense, which ranks second in the country in his adjusted metrics. However, their defense fails them, coming in at just 66th, far outside the range of most of the best clubs.

He likes Auburn as well, who rates at No. 5 overall in the country, just a few spots ahead of Alabama’s No. 8 spot. KP’s metrics are fans of the Tigers because Bruce Pearl’s team is elite on both ends of the court, boasting top-10 units on offense and defense — a mark many former championship teams have hit.

So, with such high respect for each of these SEC foes, KenPom also went the way of Vegas and predicts a slight Alabama victory since they’re at home. He scores it 85-83 in favor of the Tide while assigning them a 56% to pull off the win outright.

As for ESPN’s Basketball Power Index (BPI), well, Alabama is again the favorite, this time by 39 points and with a 63.6% chance to pull off the victory. The BPI also rates Auburn-Alabama as the No. 1 game of the evening in their Matchup Quality metrics, which scored this contest four points higher than second place.

This is a battle for first place in the SEC. If Auburn somehow pulls off the road win, they’d maintain their spot atop the league as the only undefeated group. Meanwhile, Alabama would force a three-way tie between these two and Tennessee at one loss apiece.
