Austin Herro, the little brother of Tyler Herro, spent two seasons playing in the Southeastern Conference. Now, he is headed back up north with his transfer commitment this afternoon.

Herro has committed to St. Thomas from out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. He shared that news with a graphic posted on social media on Friday.

Herro redshirted during his first season with the Gamecocks as a true freshman. Then, after being put on scholarship in the offseason, he would make ten appearances in his second year with 14 minutes played as he scored 2 points (1-2 FG), grabbed two rebounds, had one assist, and committed two turnovers in those opportunities while in Columbia.

Herro is one of seven transfers to have entered the portal during this cycle for South Carolina. He along with and Nick Pringle (Arkansas) and Zachary Davis (Memphis) have committed elsewhere while Jamarii Thomas, Morris Ugusuk, Arden Conyers, and Okku Federiko are available.

A Milwaukee native, Herro played high school basketball at Whitnall. That’s the same school that his brother, Tyler Herro, played at where he was a four-star, Top-40 recruit in the country who went on to play at Kentucky. Herro, a Second Team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team selection, would help the Wildcats to a 30-7 record in ’18-’19 in finishing in the Elite Eight of the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The Miami Heat would then draft him with the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft with Herro going on to be Sixth Man of the Year in 2022 as well as be an All-Star for the first time this past season in 2025 over his six years so far in South Beach.

Herro earns overrated, underrated votes in 2025 Anonymous NBA Player Poll

The Athletic published the results of their Anonymous NBA Player Poll on April 22nd, full of thought-provoking questions which provide a glimpse into what the players really think. Many of the questions surrounded franchises, rules, coaches, and the association as a whole with multiple former Wildcats receiving votes on questions related to players.

The Athletic really leaned into the animosity factor of this poll to elicit some scandalous feedback with most overrated section. When asked who the most overrated player in the NBA was, four former Kentucky players made the list. Out of 90 responses, Julius Randle received 4.4% of the vote, tying him for fifth place, while Tyler Herro received 2.2% of the vote, putting him in a tie for tenth. Devin Booker and Anthony Davis each received one vote apiece.

Then, how about underrated? Six former Kentucky players earned at least one vote in that section. Leading that group is none other than Cason Wallace with 2.2% of the 136 votes cast, good for a tie for sixth. Tyler Herro was the only other player to receive more than one vote, which is interesting since he got votes for being the most overrated player too. Players then receiving one vote included Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Devin Booker, Tyrese Maxey, and Jamal Murray.
