Austin Peay baseball coach Roland Fanning offers free beer to baseball fans

When it comes to getting fans in the stands, sports teams have gotten more and more creative over the years. Plenty of them offer free sandwiches, free bacon, free apparel, and many other give aways to get fans in the seats. On Friday evening, Austin Peay baseball took things to new levels when their head coach, Roland Fanning, offered to pay for free beer for the first 50 fans that show up.

The Governors also announced the giveaway on their Twitter page in a video. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how many fans the promotion lures to the ballpark on Friday night.

Austin Peay takes on the North Alabama Lions at 7:00 PM CT on Friday night. They’ve posted a pretty good overall record this year of 34-18 and 19-9 in the ASUN conference. The Governors have been impressive at home, with a record of 19-6.

Top to bottom, Austin Peay has an impressive amount of power at the plate, with seven players with 10 or more home runs in the 2024 campaign. Two of those players have blasted over twenty home runs each: Lyle Miller-Green with 28 home runs and John Bay with 23 home runs.

Miller-Green also leads Austin Peay in RBIs with 89. Bay is in second place in that stat category with 70 RBIs. Their pitching staff is led by Andrew Devine, who has posted an ERA of 2.95 this year, finishing with three complete games and an overall record of 6-0 in 10 starts. He’s thrown 60 strikeouts in 58 total innings, allowing 36 hits and six home runs.

Miller-Green also pitches for Austin Peay, posting a 5-1 record in 47.1 innings of work. He’s fired 42 strikeouts, while allowing an ERA of 7.61 per outing. Clayton Gray leads the Governors in stolen bases (13), doubles (22), and triples (3). Miller-Green dominates several different stat categories on their roster. He’s also tied for the team lead in games played this year (52).

Austin Peay will wrap up their 2024 regular season with their two games against North Alabama (May 17th and May 18th), before beginning the postseason. The ASUN Championship runs from Tuesday, May 21st to Sunday, May 26th.
