Ball State punter Lucas Borrow has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. Borrow spent four seasons at Ball State.

In the 2023 campaign, Borrow recorded 59 punts, averaging a career-high 41.8 yards per kick. Nine of the punts were 50 or more yards. Further, over a third of the attempts landed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

For his efforts, Borrow was named an All-MAC Third Team member. Borrow’s standout season was no fluke. During his junior year in 2022, Borrow recorded a career-high 67 punts and averaged 41.4 yards per attempt. Borrow only punted seven times during his sophomore season and he did not play during his freshman year.

Lucas Borrow was a three-star prospect in high school. He was the No. 2,917 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Like many collegiate punters, Borrow learned to kick across the ocean. As a native of Australia, Borrow played Australian football on the Sydney Swans Academy team from 2011-17. Moreover, he served as the Newcastle team captain.

Now, Borrow will look to take his talents elsewhere. He is the 15th Ball State player to enter the transfer portal during or since the 2023 campaign.

Former Arkansas punter Max Fletcher commits to Cincinnati

The transfer portal has proven to be helpful to punters looking for a fresh start. Earlier this month, Arkansas punter Max Fletcher entered the transfer portal. He spent two seasons with the Razorbacks.

Fletcher had a standout season last year for Arkansas, earning All-SEC Second-Team honors after leading the conference with 2,770 punting yards and averaging 46.9 yards per punt. He kicked 19 of his 59 punt attempts inside the 20-yard line, highlighted by two games with four punts inside the 20 this past season.

In his true freshman season, Fletcher punted in nine games, punting 38 times for an average of 37.5 yards. All in all boasting a 34.5% rate of punts inside the 20-yard line in his 97 punts for the Razorbacks with 4,194 yards of punt yardage under his belt as he looks to join a new program.

Fletcher was a three-star recruit out of the punting organization Prokick Australia, ranked the No. 4 punter in the 2022 recruiting class according to On3’s Industry Ranking. Fletcher committed to Cincinnati on April 19.
