Barstool's Dave Portnoy trolls Ohio State with 'Extend Ryan Day' gear
Barstool’s Dave Portnoy has long been known as a Michigan alum who will get involved in trolling battles across the college sports landscape.
Every now and then an opportunity falls right into his lap.
On Saturday, Dave Portnoy took full advantage, highlighting a troll that he might well have set up. A plane was spotted flying over Columbus, the site of today’s playoff game between Ohio State and Tennessee.
It trailed a banner that read: “Extend Ryan Day, #GoBlue.”
The messaging is clear from a Michigan fan’s point of view. Day has now lost four straight in the rivalry series against the Wolverines, and that’s exactly the kind of result Michigan fans hope continues going forward.
So, the game is clear: Keep Ryan Day and hope he can’t figure out a way to turn things around.
To that end, Dave Portnoy is even selling Michigan gear with the “Extend Ryan Day” theme on them. He posted a link to a collection that included a beanie ($35), a T-shirt ($32) and a hoodie ($80) with the slogan on it.
As for Ohio State, Day remains in strong standing with the program despite the losses against Michigan. Athletics director Ross Bjork provided some support following the loss to Michigan this year.

“Our full focus right now is on the College Football Playoff and making a strong run,” said Bjork. “We have a ton to play for. We have a great team made up of talented players and great young men. Coach Day does a great job leading our program. He’s our coach.
“There’s going to be plenty of time to dissect what happened in the rivalry game the last couple years. But right now, we have to keep the main thing the main thing, and that’s focus on the values of the program, focus on why we lead the young men, focus on the mission and the playoff.”
Ohio State and Tennessee are slated for an 8 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC. Dave Portnoy figures to be watching.
