BCS Rankings (11/6)

The BCS Formula is long gone when it comes to the sport of college football. Still, amidst the final year of the four-team model of the College Football Playoff, it’s at least interesting to look back through its lens and see how they view how this upcoming postseason could look.

@BCSKnowHow provides fans with that exact viewpoint with their rankings using the previous BCS model. By combining simulations and the latest polls, the page gives out a Top-25 for what this season’s finish could end up being.

After the first weekend of November, only two changes occurred from last week’s Top-10. The rest of the Top-25 was jumbled up, though, based on the results that came from Week 10.

1. Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State remained in the top spot at No. 1 for the BCS following their 35-16 win at Rutgers on Saturday. The victory in Piscataway will also likely keep the Buckeyes atop the latest rankings for the College Football Playoff.

To be clear, it was by no means a pretty win against the Scarlet Knights. Ohio State found themselves down 9-7 at halftime due to a scoreless second quarter. However, a 28-7 second half that featured a long pick-six and two scores from Marvin Harrison Jr. was enough to get the job done in the end.

2. Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia is the first of two teams to move up in this week’s ranking after they were at No. 3 last week.

As far as play, that may come as a surprise as the two-time defending champions had to battle it out to the end in order to secure their 30-21 victory over Missouri. However, the rating likely learned more in the Bulldog’s direction over Michigan considering they beat a ranked opponent while the Wolverines crushed yet another lesser foe.

3. Michigan Wolverines

Michigan dropped one spot behind Georgia although they won 41-13 at Purdue off their bye week.

As previously stated, this likely came down to the ranking of the Bulldog’s opponent in the Tigers compared to the Wolverine’s in the Boilermakers. That’s because, on the field, it was business as usual once more for the blue and maize as they won by 24 or more yet again this season.

4. Florida State Seminoles

Florida State also found itself in a bit of a first-half pickle on the road at Acrisure Stadium on Saturday. Even so, their burst at the end of the third quarter was enough to get past Pittsburgh and maintain their spot at No. 4.

After a field goal at the end of the first half, the Seminoles were only up 10-7 over the Panthers at the break. Still, they were able to snap out of their funk in time to secure their ninth win of the season and clinch their spot in the ACC Championship.

5. Washington Huskies

Washington found themselves in the midst of the shootout that everyone expected them to be in at USC this weekend. They got the final shot off, though, by winning 52-42 in Los Angeles.

In the end, the Huskies put up 572 yards of offense in the final outing from Trojan DC Alex Grinch. That led to a 28-point second quarter and gave them a 10-0 fourth-quarter finish to keep their unbeaten record intact.

6. Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama was the second team to make a one-spot jump after their 42-28 victory over LSU.

In a matchup that likely decided the SEC West, the Crimson Tide pulled away from the Tigers in the second half to take it by two touchdowns. They took advantage of the LSU defense and got enough stops on the Tiger offense, albeit without Jayden Daniels in the end, to put up another performance that has many believing in Nick Saban and ‘Bama once again.

7. Texas Longhorns

Alabama took the spot of Texas in the BCS’ rankings after the Longhorn’s close call against Kansas State this weekend.

Texas had full control of this significant Big 12 matchup until around the start of the fourth quarter. After going up by 20, the Wildcats went on a 24-3 run to send it to overtime before the Longhorns were able to hang on in the extra period. Now, Steve Sarkisian and company can only hope for a quick return from Quinn Ewers in order to finish the month how they’d hope to.

8. Oregon Ducks

Oregon QB Bo Nix

While several of the other BCS’ Top-10 teams avoided scares, Oregon just kept on trucking out west. After an impressive win at Utah last weekend, the Ducks put on another show with a 63-19 victory over California this weekend.

Oregon took it by 44 over the Golden Bears thanks to nine total trips to the endzone. Two-thirds of those scores came from Bo Nix as the Ducks QB1 led their offense, alongside a three-turnover day from their defense, to yet another step towards contention both in the Pac-12 and nationally.

9. Penn State Nittany Lions

After dodging a bullet against Indiana after losing to Ohio State, some thought Penn State might cost themselves at Maryland if they looked ahead to Michigan. Instead, the Nittany Lions put up the best performance of their Big Ten campaign thus far with a 51-15 win in College Park.

As if a 17-point lead and two turnovers wasn’t enough in the first three quarters, Penn State hung up 27 more with the help of three more takeaways in the fourth quarter. Now, after the 38-point rout of the Terps, the Nittany Lions will return home to give the Wolverines their toughest test of the season so far.

10. Ole Miss Rebels

Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin

The Lane Train kept on chugging in Oxford this weekend with Ole Miss’ 38-35 victory over Texas A&M.

Behind five touchdowns from Jaxson Dart and Quinshon Judkins, a key interception on defense, and a blocked field goal to end the game, the Rebels secured their eighth win of the season. Now, with five straight victories and sole possession of second place in the SEC West, Ole Miss will head to Georgia for a Top-10 matchup with a ton of momentum behind them.

No. 11-25

11. Louisville Cardinals
12. Utah Utes
13. Oregon State Beavers
14. Oklahoma Sooners
15. Tennessee Volunteers
16. Missouri Tigers
17. Oklahoma State Cowboys
18. LSU Tigers
19. James Madison Dukes
20. Kansas Jayhawks
21. Tulane Green Wave
22. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
23. Liberty Flames
24. Iowa Hawkeyes
25. North Carolina Tar Heels

Again, there weren’t many shifts in this week’s version of the rankings. Still, it’s interesting to see how the BCS model views how this season’s title looks compared to what the committee will release on Tuesday night.
