Big 12 Championship: Arizona State set to face Iowa State in conference title game

There was a lot up in the air regarding the Big 12 Championship game entering Saturday’s slate of college football games. However, with the night now completed, we officially know what the matchup will be.

Arizona State will take on Iowa State next week for the conference crown and a potential trip to the College Football Playoff. The Cyclones advanced with a 29-21 win against Kansas State.

The Sun Devils got another huge game from Cam Skattebo as he rushed for 177 yards and three touchdowns in the victory. Additionally, quarterback Sam Leavitt threw for 291 yards and three scores in what was an explosive day from the ASU offense.

Arizona State has come out of nowhere to thrust itself into a spot in the Big 12 Championship after wins against Kansas State and BYU in the two weeks prior to beating the Wildcats. The Sun Devils have won five straight contests to close the regular season.

Iowa State entered the weekend needing a win against Kansas State and got it to escape 29-21 in Ames. Quarterback Rocco Becht scored three total touchdowns while throwing for 137 yards and rushing for another 35.

The Cyclones then needed BYU to beat Houston in order to make the Big 12 Championship game over Colorado. They got that result as BYU prevailed 30-18 to set the conference championship game in stone.

Iowa State advanced to the Big 12 Championship for the first time since 2020, but has never won the title. Of course, it is also the first for Arizona State, which just moved to the conference from the Pac-12 this season.

The matchup will pit Skattebo against the Iowa State defense, which ranks 15th in the conference in rushing yards allowed per game. That will be among many key matchups to watch heading into the contest.

The Big 12 Championship game is set to kick off at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, Dec. 7 and will be televised on ABC.
