The Big 12 remains at the forefront of college football conference rumors. As each day passes, insiders and media members with acccess to the closed-door conversations continue to keep the narrative moving toward a college football landscape without the Big-12.

On Tuesday, former Pitt football coach Dave Wannstedt made an appearance on 670 The Score in Chicago and dropped some potentially eye-popping moves involving multiple schools bolting from the Big 12 to the Pac-12, ACC and Big Ten.

“I was at the Fox meetings in Phoenix last week, and we were all talking, and a lot of the Big Ten people were all there,” Wannstedt said “It sounds like the Oklahoma State and Kansas State are going to the Pac-12, so that’s done.”

Obviously, until an official announcement is made, this is all speculation on Wannstedt’s part, but it’s interesting coming from a respected former college coach with access to that sort of information.

“It sounds like West Virginia is going to end up in the ACC, which makes sense with the Virginia bit, everybody there,” Wannstedt added. “And it sounds like Iowa State and Kansas are going to join the Big Ten here, locally.”

Wannstedt believes Big 12 done

If true, those would be groundbreaking moves that would certainly shake the various conferences involved.

Still, there are schools, according to Wannstedt, that have been left on the outside as of now and are still attached to the Big 12, a conference the former Pitt coach believes is fizzling out forever.

“There will be a few schools like Texas Tech and TCU, nobody knows what they are going to do,” Wannstedt said, “but right now, unfortunately, they’re saying the Big 12 is all together on this, but they’re not. When that thing happened with Texas and Oklahoma, it became clear everyone was on their own, and with this news now, it’s clear there is no Big 12 mentioned anywhere.”

Until there is an official announcement this all remains hearsay, but it feels like there could be some major changes in college football conferences coming sooner rather than later.
