Big Ten officially announces 2024 schedule model, opponents for each team

The 2024 season will be one of major changes for the Big Ten. Two new schools will join the league, taking it to 16 teams as the lucrative media rights deal enters its second year.
Now, each team knows who it will play and what the schedule format will be.
The Big Ten unveiled the list of opponents Thursday and confirmed it plans to do away with the East and West divisions, and go with a “Flex Protect” schedule model, the league announced. That means teams will have different numbers of annual opponents. Some teams could have one, others could have three.
As The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach reported Wednesday, it not only helps protect traditional rivalries, but also keeps “an eye toward competitive balance, home-and-away rotations and the specific challenges around West Coast travel for teams playing USC or UCLA.”
