The Big Ten on Wednesday announced the future sites for the conference men’s and women’s basketball tournament for the next four seasons. The league is planning to depart from two familiar sites in Indianapolis and Chicago during that span.

The women’s basketball tournament will be played in Indianapolis the next two seasons before going to Las Vegas in 2027 and then Detroit in 2028. The women’s conference tournament has been most-commonly held in Indianapolis, but the last two tournaments were hosted in Minneapolis.

The men’s tournament will play in Indianapolis for the upcoming season (2025 tournament) and be back there in 2027. In 2026, the tournament will return to Chicago and then in 2028 the men will head west and play in Las Vegas.

All the Las Vegas games are slated to be played in T-Mobile Arena. The Pac-12 frequently held its postseason men’s basketball tournament there until it’s dissolution to two teams this summer. The Big Ten absorbed four teams from that league, adding a West Coast presence to the league and evidently enticing this move to play some postseason hoops in Las Vegas.

Future women’s Big Ten tournament sites, dates:

  • 2025: Gainbridge Fieldhouse — Indianapolis, March 5-9
  • 2026: Gainbridge Fieldhouse — Indianapolis, March 4-8
  • 2027: T-Mobile Arena — Las Vegas, March 3-7
  • 2028: Little Caesars Arena — Detroit, March 1-5

Future men’s Big Ten tournament sites, dates:

  • 2025: Gainbridge Fieldhouse — Indianapolis, March 12-16
  • 2026: United Center — Chicago, March 11-15
  • 2027: Gainbridge Fieldhouse — Indianapolis, March 10-14
  • 2028: T-Mobile Arena — Las Vegas, March 8-12

If the change were to come, it would be after the 2024-25 college basketball season, sources tell college basketball analyst Jon Rothstein.

The SEC expanded to 16 teams earlier this month with the additions of Texas and Oklahoma from the Big 12 Conference. To compensate for the additional programs, two added games per season seems like the most logical way to go if there were to be a change. However, Rothstein’s source said that it’s “too early,” to tell either way.

The ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, and Big East all play 20 league games per season, meaning the SEC is the only power conference that plays 18 in-conference matchups.

A similar debate occurred on the football side of things, as the SEC was considering expanding to a nine-game league schedule. They ended up deciding that the eight-game model will continue for at least the next two seasons with one mandated game played against a program from another major conference or a “major independent,” which is includes Notre Dame.
