PICKING Missouri vs Boston College | Brady Cook vs Thomas Castellanos Preview

Bill O’Brien pushed all the right buttons so far in his first season at Boston College but he wants more to compete with pro sports.

Well, not necessarily compete, but get on the level of the big four around the city of Boston. Of course, those are the Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox and Bruins.

But at 2-0 and ranked No. 24 in the country, Boston College and O’Brien might have reason to garner more attention.

“It’s a great city, and there’s no doubt, you know, it is a pro sports town,” O’Brien said on Sirius XM. “It’s got legendary professional sports teams. But, you know, we play on Saturdays. You know, even last Saturday at the Duquesne game, you know, 6,000 students, we only have 9000 students here, so 60% of our student body showed up to the game.

“And that’s really, really good. And so I think if we can get the city of Boston by continuing to play good football, we can get the city of Boston to really, you know, see us play on Saturdays.”

O’Brien knows the area quite well, due to his time with the Patriots. Not only that, he’s well aware of the machine that is the NFL, from his time as head coach of the Houston Texans.

In two weeks, O’Brien and the Eagles have wins over Florida State, 28-13 as well as a 56-0 shutout of Duquesne. This week, Boston College travels to No. 6 Missouri Saturday before returning home on September 21 against Michigan State.

“You know, the Patriots are on Sunday, and they’re obviously, they started off really well yesterday,” O’Brien said. “So, you know, it’d be really good to just be the Division 1 college team in this town, that gets a great crowd and that is huge for recruiting.

“We had probably 30 prospects at the game and we had guys that were committed to other schools at our game and you know I think that’s pretty good. And I think we’ve got to continue to put a good brand of football on the field and that’ll help us in recruiting, no doubt about it.”

O’Brien and Boston College could very well be the talk of the town if they continue to win. It’ll surely skyrocket if the Eagles upset the Tigers on the road.
