Bo Bassett, No. 1 2026 wrestling prospect, reveals latest recruiting update
Bo Bassett is the most sought after college wrestling prospect in the Class of 2026. He’s the top wrestler in the class and the No. 3 pound-for-pound high school wrestler nationwide, per MatScouts.
As he does every Wednesday, Bassett trimmed his recruiting list and posted his latest update. He was very open and honest about his recruiting process, giving nearly every Division 1 school a chance to call and give him their pitch.
On Wednesday, he eliminated seven more schools but plenty are still in the proverbial running for now.
“My Wednesday recruiting update: it didn’t slow down much at all,” Bassett wrote on Twitter. “Right now training for U20 Pan ams in Peru and worlds in Spain is my priority.Every Wed for a while I will take 7 more off the list. This is a once in a (lifetime) thing and I am going to make it fun, not stressful.”
Bassett wrestles at Bishop McCort Catholic High School in Pennsylvania and his teammate, fellow sophomore Jax Forrest, is the No. 5 pound for pound prospect in the country. Bassett and Forrest are the top two recruits in the Class of 2026 and just happen to wrestle for the same school.

Ranked No. 1 at 144 pounds in the high school rankings, Bassett is seen as a generational prospect. He was the 2021 U17 gold medalist in freestyle wrestling and is a 2024 U20 World Team member at 65 KG.
Bassett was also a 2024 Pennsylvania State Champion as a freshman.
On a recent edition of Baschamania, Bassett opened up on what he looked forward to in the recruiting process. One thing’s for sure, he’ll take his time.
“I’m extremely excited. It’s gonna be fun,” Bassett said prior to when coaches could officially call him. “That post that I put out, I just kind of want to make the point that everyone’s in the (running) and I’m not really slotted in anywhere, I don’t prefer any other schools over anyone else and I’m really excited to be open as far as recruiting.
“I’m excited to go see where I best fit and I think that there’s a lot of different factors that I’m looking into but I think it’s just where I can be the most successful and get the you know, the most out of it. Going to take my visits, I’m not going to commit on day one or probably within the first month to six months. I think that it’s one of those things that I’m going to take my time and really make the right decision, but you only get that decision once. And I’m a pretty loyal guy so I don’t really see myself transferring out ever. So I think wherever I go, that’s where I’m going to be for four maybe (five) years … so really excited for this process.”
