Bo Bassett recruiting update: No. 1 wrestling prospect recaps Ohio State visit, trims to 13 schools
Bo Bassett is back to his weekly updates and the No. 1 wrestling prospect in 2026 is fresh off a visit with Ohio State.
With that, Bassett eliminated another school off his list and is down to 13 schools vying for his services. It’s more difficult each week.
Bassett has three official visits left on his current schedule following ones with Ohio State, Penn State and Iowa.
“I had an amazing week of training and this past weekend we were in Columbus, Ohio at Ohio State,” Bassett wrote in his newsletter. “Coach Tom Ryan was there to pick us up. My brothers and I went to RTC workouts and got a good workout right out of the gate. After the workout we sat down with their whole resource team, which was great to see how all their coaches/trainers/strength/academics/mindset work together. This meeting was very good and I learned a lot about the program and their overall plan to develop their athletes …
“Then on Sunday, we all went to church together. I may have been to the most amazing church in my life. We went to Rock City church and before the service we got to talk and hang with the pastor. He was an amazing person and loved wrestling.”

Bassett eliminated Nebraska from his list this week.
“I always like to do things a little differently and most importantly have fun with things,” Bassett said. “I worked my whole life in wrestling and am going to enjoy this process. I know, when I was young, I would have loved to follow Spencer Lee or Zain Retherford recruiting process. So unfortunately this week I had to take Nebraska off the list. They are a great program with a top notch coaching staff. Coach Trevel and Coach Manning are both amazing people.”
Bassett’s remaining schools are: Virginia Tech, Cornell, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, Iowa State, Pitt-Johnstown, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Northern Iowa, Missouri.
