Bo Bassett reveals latest wrestling recruiting update after first official visit
Bo Bassett made his first official visit and released his latest wrestling recruiting update Wednesday, putting him down to 17 schools.
The No. 1 overall prospect in 2026, per MatScouts, got to visit Michigan with teammate Jax Forrest, the No. 2 prospect in the class. As we get closer to the college wrestling season, it’ll get very interesting for these generational recruits.
Bassett eliminated Pitt this week and gave some insight to his visit in Ann Arbor.
“The weekend was action packed with workouts, observing workouts, tours of the facilities, meeting all the coaches, professors and support staff,” Bassett said in his newsletter. “Saturday we got the chance to be on the field and watch the Michigan vs USC football game at the Big House. It was a great game and atmosphere. I was really impressed with their RTC, their wrestling facility and their new Sports Performance building. All the coaches and staff all brought the energy and loved their jobs. I like how they focus a lot on freestyle and their RTC is a huge focus.”
Bassett also mentioned he met JJ McCarthy‘s father Jim while on campus.
“One of the coolest parts of the weekend was getting to meet and talk to JJ McCarthy’s father, Jim,” Bassett said. “I am a huge fan of his son for the way he plays and approaches football. He is a leader and driven to be the best. Mr McCarthy was passionate about Michigan and character. He had an amazing message and story about ‘The Dash.’

“Overall Michigan was very good. I really don’t have much to compare it to, with it being my first official visit. If all the visits are like this, it will be an amazing few weeks.”
Bassett also received a home visit from Penn State head coach Cael Sanderson.
“I will tell you the visit was amazing and it may have been one of the best home visits yet,” Bassett said. “I have loved wrestling for a very long time, I think since I was born, and having Coach Cael in my house didn’t seem real. I don’t know if many people think on the same level of the PSU Staff.”
Here are Bassett’s remaining schools: Virginia Tech, Cornell, Michigan, Ohio State, Lehigh, Penn State, Air Force, Rutgers, Iowa State, Pitt-Johnstown, Princeton, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Northern Iowa, Missouri.
A 2024 Pennsylvania state champion and U20 World Bronze Medalist, the saga continues for Bassett.
