When the Heisman Trophy ceremony takes place on Saturday night it’ll be a reunion of sorts for LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels and Oregon quarterback Bo Nix.

The two quarterbacks have known each other since the high school days, when they toured the country on the same camp circuits to get recognized and get recruited.

Nix admits it’ll be cool to sit next to Daniels on Saturday.

“Been obviously keeping up with him and his name has always been in the national attention and he’s always been able to take what he has and make the most of it,” Bo Nix said.

Daniels is the favorite to win the award after a fantastic season for the Tigers. He tallied 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns passing, while also adding 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

If not for Daniels, LSU very likely would have been fighting for bowl eligibility, rather than winning nine contests.

Nix has a similar story, though his team was in contention for a bit longer, only falling out of College Football Playoff contention with a Pac-12 Championship Game loss to Washington.

Both will enjoy reminiscing on the early days.

“We were on the same team at the Opening and he had gotten there that week and kind of got banged up, so he wasn’t able to participate that week,” Bo Nix recalled. “But we went through that week together and then at the end of that year we were on the same team at the Under Armour game again.

“So we’ve been around each other early, and then he went on to Arizona State, I went on to Auburn. Then we kind of switched sides of the country same year, and now he’s playing at LSU, I’m at Oregon.”

On Saturday night, the two will be on the same side of the country again. In the same room, even.

Also in that room will be dozens of other Heisman Trophy winners, just waiting to welcome the next winner into the fraternity. Its’ a good bet that winner will be either Jayden Daniels or Bo Nix, two quarterbacks who met on the recruiting trail several years ago.
