Booger McFarland explains what a win vs. LSU would mean for Texas A&M's CFP chances
Don’t look now, but Texas A&M has a chance to stake its claim atop the SEC standings. After years of struggle to contend under Jimbo Fisher, the Aggies find themselves tied with LSU as the only two undefeated teams left in conference play ahead of a meeting between the two Saturday.
Speaking on a preview of the College Football Playoff Rankings show on Tuesday, ESPN analyst and LSU alum Booger McFarland was highly complimentary of what A&M has accomplished this season. He had high praise for the defensive line especially, calling it the best unit in the country.
“I think we were accustomed to the old system and we kind of forgot about them,” McFarland said of Texas A&M. “…I think they have the best defensive line in America. That defensive line has been dominant, Weigman comes back, the offensive line is starting the figure it out and if you look at their schedule, they’ve got LSU this weekend. It’s for who’s gonna be No. 1 in the SEC after this weekend.
“…So as we’re trying to figure out where A&M is gonna stack, if they beat LSU and they set up that game against Texas, the Texas A&M Aggies could put themselves in really, really good shape. And, on top of that, they would have two quarterbacks that can play with that defensive line and, let’s not forget, the catalyst Le’Veon Moss, who’s been running the football really well.”

The Aggies ranks 15th in the country with an average of 2.8 sacks per game and the matchup between them and the Tigers offensive line will be one to watch. LSU is giving up just the second-fewest sacks this season but will have its work cut out for it.
Additionally, quarterback Conner Weigman is healthy after missing a couple of games due to injury. He returned two weeks ago to lead A&M to a 41-10 victory against Missouri and will look to take advantage of an LSU secondary that ranks 15th in the SEC in passing yards allowed per game.
Either way, it’s clear this A&M team is different than what we’re used to and it’s time people start paying attention. Kickoff between Texas A&M and LSU is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday in College Station.
