After the final College Football Playoff Top 25 rankings reveal, bowl assignments are starting to be announced. The New Year’s Six games will be part of the 12-team CFP, and the remaining bowl-eligible teams will fill out the rest of the slate.

The 12-team bracket came out Sunday, which revealed the first-round matchups. Under the new format, the four highest-ranked conference champions will receive byes. OregonGeorgiaBoise State and Arizona State came in as the respective top four seeds, meaning they won’t start their CFP runs until the quarterfinals.

Those quarterfinal games will be at New Year’s Six bowl sites. The assignments were based on existing conference contracts, CFP executive director Rich Clark previously said. Semifinal locations will then be decided solely on proximity of the higher seed in the quarterfinal – even if that team loses, because plans have to be in place. Teams will not have the option to move the game, according to CFP spokesperson Brett Daniels.

Before the College Football Playoff starts, Bowl Season officially gets underway Dec. 14 with the Camellia Bowl. From there, bowl games will run through the new year, with the first CFP games taking place Dec. 20.

One of the stories of the college football season, Boise State came in as the No. 3 seed after winning the Mountain West. That means the Broncos – appropriately, given their history – will play in the Fiesta Bowl, where they’ll await the winner of SMU vs. Penn State.

Peach Bowl (CFP Quarterfinal): Arizona State vs. Clemson/Texas

Rose Bowl (CFP Quarterfinal): Oregon vs. Tennessee/Ohio State

Date: Jan. 1
Time: 5 p.m. ET

In the Rose Bowl Game, top-seeded Oregon will get ready to get its College Football Playoff run started. The Ducks will take on either Tennessee or Ohio State in the game, which means a rematch with the Buckeyes is in the cards.
