Saturday night’s game between the Michigan Wolverines and Bowling Green Falcons took a scary turn, after Falcons’ linebacker Demetrius Hardamon and Wolverines’ tight end Colston Loveland were involved in a collision. Hardamon was down on the field for several minutes before being carted off and waved to the ground once he was leaving the field of play.

We’ll have to see what the updates are later in the evening on Hardamon’s status. His injury is a reminder of just how dangerous the game of football can be at times. In the third quarter, the Wolverines currently lead the Falcons 21-6.

Players from both teams surrounded him before he was carted off the field. He left the game with 11:19 remaining in the third quarter. The Michigan football Twitter account tweeted a message of support to Bowling Green and Hardamon in the middle of the game.

Last year, Hardamon appeared in all of Bowling Green’s 13 games and finished with 6.0 sacks. He made two stops against UCLA. He also tallied a sack in his team’s win against Marshall. Hardamon was named the MAC East Defensive Player of the Week after tallying five tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, and forcing a fumble in his team’s win over the Miami Redhawks.

In 2021, Hardamon appeared in all 12 of Bowling Green’s games with one start. He finished the year with 27 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks. Before joining the Falcons, he spent the 2018 season with Georgetown College, a NAIA school in Kentucky.

Michigan got an impressive performance from their defense in the 31-6 victory. Running back Blake Corum only had 12 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

It was kind of a sloppy game from the Wolverines’ offense as quarterback J.J. McCarthy threw three interceptions. As a team, Michigan had four total turnovers. It didn’t matter against Bowling Green, but they’ll have to be better than that against elite competition like Ohio State and Penn State. If they make it to the College Football Playoff, they’ll certainly have to be better against whoever they face there.

Michigan outgained Bowling Green 169-79 on the ground, too. The Wolverines finished with 312 total yards of offense to 203 total yards for Bowling Green.

Next week, the second-ranked Wolverines takes on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. That one is set for Saturday, Sept. 23rd. Kickoff will be Noon EST.
