The regular season is marching on in the final two weeks. With that, the Missouri Tigers are set to travel to Starkville for a conference matchup against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

This will only be the fifth meeting all-time between Missouri and Mississippi State. The series is tied 2-2 with their last meeting coming back in 2020. That game was one of just two times the two teams have met as members of the SEC and Mississippi State has won both of those conference meetings in the past. In fact, the last time the Tigers beat the Bulldogs was back in 1984.

Ahead of their game, both Missouri and Mississippi State released availability reports for injured players, which can be seen here:

At one point this season, Missouri looked to be one of several SEC teams that could compete for a spot in the College Football Playoff. However, after suffering a third loss last week, it looks like the Tigers are out of the Playoff race.

A big part of Missouri’s recent struggles has come down to their injury issues. In particular, the Tigers have been without quarterback Brady Cook. He was knocked out of the Alabama loss and has been replaced by Drew Pyne since then. Luckily, however, Missouri was able to list him as probable on Wednesday’s injury report. So, the signs are pointing toward a return for the Tigers’ starting quarterback.

Beyond Cook, Missouri listed six different players as out on the Wednesday injury report. So, there is once again an expectation that the Tigers will be shorthanded.

As for Mississippi State, it’s been a difficult first season for head coach Jeff Lebby. The Bulldogs are just 2-8 overall and 0-6 in SEC play. That will give Mississippi State two more opportunities to win a conference game this season, with Missouri and the Egg Bowl upcoming. However, a bowl game is no longer on the table.

The injury bug has certainly been one of Mississippi State’s problems. The Bulldogs listed eight players as being out on Wednesday. That includes quarterback Blake Shapen, two wide receivers, a running back, and an offensive lineman. It’s been a test of depth and that will continue through the end of the season.

The next injury report will be available from both teams on Friday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. EST in Starkville on Saturday.
