The College Football Playoff is culminating with a National Championship Game between Notre Dame and Ohio State. For former Irish quarterback Brady Quinn, his loyalty for the game isn’t in doubt. However, his sister may not be pulling as heavily for Quinn’s old team.

That’s because Quinn’s sister, Laura Quinn Hawk, is married to A.J. Hawk, a former Ohio State linebacker. That relationship goes back decades and when Hawk and Quinn played one another in the 2006 Fiesta Bowl, she actually wore a split jersey for her brother and Hawk.

Now, Laura Quinn Hawk is going to have another opportunity to wear that jersey when the two meet in Atlanta. With that hanging over his head as a possibility, Brady Quinn joked about his sister’s iconic jersey while making an appearance on Always College Football.

“I’m more curious to see what my sister does with the half jersey,” Brady Quinn joked. “If she brings it back out or if it makes some sort of appearance again before this game.”

At that point, Greg McElroy as the host cut in to joke that Quinn could get a custom-made jersey. It could be an Ohio State jersey but have Brady Quinn’s number 10 and last name on it. That would be instead of the split-jersey look.

“He’s [A.J. Hawk] way too cheap,” Quinn said. “He’s not doing that. Trust me, he’s not putting in that much effort on that… I was just gonna say, [Pat] McAfee would do something like that. Maybe one of the boys too. Probably not A.J. Probably not him. I don’t think he’s doing that.”

Brady Quinn and A.J. Hawk have a long history together, both being from the state of Ohio and coming from Dublin and Centerville respectively. For his part, Hawk has now been married to Laura since 2007. That was the year after Hawk’s Buckeyes beat Quinn’s Irish in the Fiesta Bowl.

Ironically, current Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman was a linebacker on Ohio State and a teammate of Hawk’s who helped the Buckeyes beat the Irish in that Fiesta Bowl.

Despite being two major programs located relatively close together, Ohio State and Notre Dame don’t actually have a long history. The two have only met eight times with Ohio State holding a 6-2 series lead. That includes winning their last six meetings. Two of those meetings were played in 2022 and 2023 respectively, when Marcus Freeman and Ryan Day were coaching their respective teams.

Notre Dame and Ohio State are scheduled to meet again, this time with a national championship on the line, on Monday, January 20th at 7:30 p.m. EST.
