Newbury Park (Calif.) four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel has decommitted from Florida State.

He was pledged to the Seminoles since June 22 but is now back on the board as one of the top signal-callers in the nation.

Smigiel is the No. 48 overall prospect and No. 6 QB in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 7 player in California.

Smigiel’s father and coach, Joe, tells On3’s Steve Wiltfong that Brady is looking to take some visits. The likes of UCLA, Washington, South Carolina and Ohio State have recently been by to visit the 6-foot-4.5, 215-pounder.

“He definitely is planning on taking some trips,” the elder Smigiel said. “After the amazing season he had 60 totals TDs and only 3 INTs which is best in the country and named Mr. California for all classes he has gotten a bunch of interest. Especially when 11 of those TDs are rushing.”

According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, South Carolina, UCLA and Washington are schools that currently stand out to Smigiel.

Seminoles lose top commitment in 2026 class

Smigiel was the top-ranked recruit in Florida State’s 2026 recruiting class. The Seminoles made some major coaching staff changes amidst a rough 2024 season, including firing offensive coordinator Alex Atkins. Former Auburn and UCF head coach Gus Malzahn has since been hired as Mike Norvell’s new OC.

Smigiel put together another impressive season in 2024 for Newbury Park. Leading the Panthers to a 14-1 record, he threw for 3,521 yards and 49 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He also ran for over 400 yards and 11 scores. Across three seasons, Smigiel has already thrown for over 11,000 yards and 147 TDs.

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $331K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
