PICKING Auburn vs Arkansas | Hugh Freeze, Hank Brown, take on Taylen Green, Sam Pittman

Auburn Tigers tight end Brandon Frazier left the team’s win over the New Mexico Lobos and was later seen in street clothes and a walking boot on his right foot. Now, it appears it’s a fairly significant injury.

While going through injuries that Auburn is dealing with, head coach Hugh Freeze shared that Brandon Frazier is going to require surgery on his foot. With that, he’s expected to miss an extended period of time this season.

“He’s unfortunately having surgery tomorrow to put a pin in his foot,” Hugh Freeze said. “So, he’ll be out an extended period of time, which hurts us.”

Brandon Frazier brings plenty of experience to the Auburn offense when he’s on the field. A four-star recruit in the Class of 2020, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, he’s now in his fifth season with the Auburn program. In three games this season, he had one reception for 16 yards. That’s coming off the most productive season of his career in 2023 when he had two touchdowns from the tight end spot.

“He was really playing at a high level for us,” Freeze said. “So, that’s disappointing. I hate that for him and hope he can make it back for key games down the stretch for sure.”

With the injury to Brandon Frazier, Auburn is going to need to find a way to replace his blend of blocking talent and production at tight end. That looks like it will start with Micah Riley, but it isn’t limited to him according to Hugh Freeze.

“He has definitely improved. He has matured in handling how you go about doing things in general. We are thrilled to have him. We are going to need him a lot now. He is going to play a lot of snaps. Between he, Rivaldo [Fairweather], Luke [Deal] there’s different skill sets, and we use them all. We are going to move someone else in that room,” Freeze said.

“We really want to go big at tight end, and we were just getting to that discussion before Kirk [Sampson] came to get me and told me it was time [for the press conference]. We need someone with build to put on the jersey that resembles a tight end.”

The Auburn Tigers are currently preparing to host the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday. This will be their first SEC game of the season and with three straight conference games against teams ranked in the AP Poll, getting off to a fast start in conference play with a win against Arkansas is going to be important for Auburn.
