Brandon McCoy, On3's No. 1 ranked in 2026, talks recruiting and his summer
Brandon McCoy is currently the No. 1 ranked player in the 2026 On3 150. The 6-foot-5 guard played up with the Arizona Unity on the 17U level on Nike’s EYBL Circuit. He led the team in scoring at 16.6 points while adding 6.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.8 steals.
“My decision-making and my playmaking has developed a lot,” McCoy said. “My coach and I really focused on that this high school season. Now I am seeing the vision and I feel like that has improved a lot. I watch a lot of Steph Curry, and how he moves off the ball. Guys like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jamal Murray.”
This summer, McCoy played with the USA Basketball team in the FIBA U17 World Championships. McCoy won his second FIBA gold medal after averaging 10.0 points and 4.3 assists.
“This summer was great,” McCoy said. “This one was a little longer trip, but it was a great experience. I played more this time, I put in the work and I ended up starting. I was like the last man last year, so this one was a completely different experience. It was a lot of fun.
“I learned with USA Basketball this summer that I can play defense for 94 feet for the whole game. I’ve never really played defense like that. I mean, I can defend, but to pick up for 94 feet on every possession, I saw I could do that.”
Brandon McCoy talks recruiting
“I’m hearing from a lot of coaches right now,” McCoy said. “I don’t want to say a couple and leave anyone out, so I’m just going hold off right now on who I’m hearing from the most. I don’t want anyone texting me mad at me.
“I have taken unofficial visits to UCLA and USC so far,” McCoy said. “The visit with USC was with the old staff.”
USC: “I know that Coach (Eric) Musselman lets his guards play. He is a harder coach, but he gets his people to the league.”

UCLA: “I had heard a lot about Coach (Mick) Cronin, and he is a harder coach. But he gets the job done, he wins. Their style of play, they’re going to win so I knew that going into it. And I felt that presence going into it and watching practice.”
…on teaming up with Tyran Stokes
“We have definitely talked about wanting to play together,” Stokes said. “But we haven’t like put anything into work yet to play together. We will see though, both of our recruitments are separate, but I’m sure some of the same schools will recruit us.
“We are a couple of dogs. We both play the right way and we both play hard. That style usually wins and it would definitely be fun and entertaining to watch.”
In McCoy’s words
“Right now, in the moment, college is definitely the route that I’m looking at taking,” McCoy said. “That can always change. I haven’t really talked with my dad or my family yet or cut any lists so I’m still listening to everyone. It’s wide open right now.
“I’m looking for a family environment. I want to play for a team that plays defense and has a winning tradition. Playing for a coach that trusts me will be big. I’m going to look at how they play for sure, but I know that I wouldn’t visit a school if I didn’t fit. I can play off the ball or on the ball, so as long as the coach trusts me to do what I do, I think I will be fine.
