No. 2 ranked Brandon McCoy opens up about recruitment, USA Basketball, and talks USC and UCLA
Brandon McCoy is the No. 2 player in the 2026 On3 150. The 6-foot-4 point guard from Bellflower (CA) St. John Bosco played up in age this summer with the Arizona Unity program on NIke’s EYBL 16U Circuit. McCoy averaged 16.6 points and 1.8 steals while shooting 36.7 percent from three.
“I feel pretty good about where I’m at with the basics,” McCoy told On3. “I still have a lot of stuff to keep working on, but I’m comfortable with my defense, talking, and all that. I’m really trying to show I’m a floor general.”
McCoy also was invited to the recent USA Basketball Junior National Team October Minicamp. He is a veteran of USA Basketball, having won a gold medal in the FIBA America U16 Championships this past summer.
“I want to come here and get better,” McCoy said. “I feel like I proved myself this summer what I can do, but I want to show I’m not going to stop there; I want to keep improving and getting better. It’s been a good weekend for me. I’ve been able to control the pace and be vocal on offense. Just as long as my team keeps winning.”
On3 caught up with Brandon McCoy at the recent USA Basketball Junior Minicamp to talk about his recruitment.
“I’ve taken unofficial visits to UCLA and USC so far,” McCoy said.
McCoy Talks Unofficial Visits
UCLA: “They have a great coach, and I really like their staff. Their campus was great. Coach (Mick) Cronin’s results speak for themself. He is a really good coach, and I feel like I fit in well with his system. It is defense first there. That visit was a good experience overall.”

USC: “I love their staff and everything they have going on. They have a great campus. My biggest takeaway from there was really Coach (Andy) Enfield and how he runs his program and how he coaches. If you play defense, you get to do what you want to do on offense. I really, really like it over there.”
In McCoy’s Words
“Things are still new, and I’m open,” McCoy said. “I don’t have any other visits set, but I want to go see as many places as I can, anyone that will have me and that is recruiting me, really.
“I want to go to a program that will take me in with open arms. A family environment and someone that I trust and I know won’t snake me. I want to play for a coach who will give me some freedom and let me go out and do what I can do.
“I can play in a lot of different playstyles. As long as I get the opportunity to play and get the ball in my hands, I’ll be okay in a lot of different settings.”
