Brandon Rose injury update: Kyle Whittingham reveals terrible news on Utah QB
Brandon Rose got his first career start in the Holy War against BYU, nearly pulling off a massive win for Utah. In the final moments of the game, Rose sustained an injury and his long-term status was in question. On Tuesday, head coach Kyle Whittingham revealed some terrible news.
He confirmed Rose will be out for the rest of the 2024 season. Rose is not the first Utah quarterback to see their year cut short, joining Cam Rising and Sam Huard. Just two scholarship QBs remain for the Utes for the final three regular season games plus a potential bowl.
“Kyle Whittingham confirms that Brandon Rose is lost for the season,” Josh Furlong said via X.
Rose wound up playing in three games this season, throwing for 157 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions while completing 52.8% of his throws. Both of those touchdowns were thrown in the first half on Saturday night against BYU.

“I thought he provided a spark and actually played pretty darn good,” Whittingham said after the game. “I thought that Brandon, for his first collegiate start and first opportunity, did a really nice job. He did some good things.”
As of now, Whittingham has not revealed a plan moving forward. Issac Wilson is still healthy and has spent most of the year as the starter. He leads the team with 1,200 passing yards and eight touchdowns but also has eight interceptions on the year.
Luke Bottari is the other quarterback on the roster and has two games of experience. In fact, he started in last year’s season finale against Colorado, the upcoming Utah opponent. However, there has been no game action for Bottari during the 2024 campaign.
Utah is set for an early start time this week, heading to Folsom Field to play Colorado. Big Noon Kickoff will be in Boulder for the occasion too. Who Whittingham decides to start at quarterback will be a massive storyline heading into the matchup.
