Brendan Hausen, 2022 4-star, discusses recruitment, visits
Brendan Hausen, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Amarillo (Texas) Amarillo has had a busy summer, and will also have a busy week ahead as the recruiting live period began today.
Hausen discusses his recruitment with On3.
Arizona State Sun Devils
This morning, Sept. 9 at 5:45 am CT, Arizona State was in Hausen’s high school gym to watch him workout and to also meet with his family. The Sun Devils have made Hausen a priority and will receive an official visit at some point, although a date has not been scheduled.
Brendan Hausen gave his thoughts on the program:
“Bobby Hurley and what he does with his guards, and even at Duke and what he did as a guard himself… that’s history,” Hausen said. “The staff he has… they’re invested. I think their style of play would fit me well and they talk to me about the minutes I could have as a freshman because they’re losing so much shooting, so I would be able to come in and be a big part of that team. They said I would be able to be myself and be unique in my own way.”
Oklahoma Sooners
This afternoon at 5:00 pm CT, Oklahoma’s staff will visit Hausen and his family at his high school. Hausen has been to Oklahoma in the past unofficially but has set up an official visit to see the Sooners on Sept. 24-26.
Brendan Hausen gave his thoughts on the program:
“What (Porter Moser) established at Loyola, that was special,” Hausen said. “He always told me that they weren’t even a top 100 program before he got there. They were actually like 300 something. So he just talks about how he turned that program around and how he brought his culture there and got guys to buy-in. They weren’t the most big-time guys, and they weren’t the most recruited guys but when he brought them all together they were able to win and create something special. He thinks now being at a bigger stage, and being able to recruit bigger guys that will fit him..he thinks he can get that national championship. OU isn’t very far from home either, only about three hours so that’s been a big pitch from his as well.”
Texas Tech Raiders
Tonight at 7:30 pm CT, Texas Tech will conduct an in-home visit with Hausen and his family. Hausen has been to Lubbock several times for unofficial visits but will be on campus officially on Oct. 22-24.
The Texas Tech campus is only about an hour and a half away from his home in Amarillo. Consequently, the majority of his community is Texas Tech fans.
Brendan Hausen gave his thoughts on the program:
“Chris Beard brought that thing up, and obviously he’s left but people are excited about basketball,” Hausen said. “It hasn’t been that way for a long time. So it’s been cool to watch that grow. Out here in west Texas, it’s not the biggest place but when something is rolling, they love it. Coach (Mark) Adams, I met with him and talked with him. I think he’s gonna keep that program rolling. He’s a top-notch coach. They do a lot of things similar to what we do at my high school. I think I could go in there and really make an impact early. I think I can thrive there too.”
Villanova Wildcats
Friday morning, Sept. 10, Villanova will be in to watch a workout at his high school gym and meet with Hausen and his family afterward. Next week, Sept. 15-17, Hausen will trip to Villanova for an official visit.
The Wildcats have made Hausen a priority, as he is the only shooting guard they have offered in the 2022 class.

Brendan Hausen gave his thoughts on the program:
“Obviously, you have a Hall of Fame coach, Jay Wright,” Hausen said. “The staff there is incredible. Just the culture there too… they think I can come in and be a great culture guy for them. A guy that can come in and play big minutes because I can spread the floor so well and shoot it. But also if you look at the guys, Collin Gillespie, Ryan Arcidiacono, guys like that, that have strived there. They think I can come in and be a guy like that.”
Nevada Wolfpack
Next Tuesday, Sept. 14, Nevada will conduct an in-home visit. The Wolfpack received an official visit from Hausen on June 2.
Hausen gave his thoughts on the program:
“They’ve been on me since last spring,” Hausen said. “I’ve always been a fan of Coach (Steve) Alford. He can shoot the ball, he played in the NBA. Legendary coach. Of course, it’s not the Power-5 or the biggest school everyone talks about but they’re consistent, they have a great roster, and I think they’re gonna get things rolling up there. Coach Alford is a winner. It’s not always about being at the biggest place, it’s about what fits you best and that’s somewhere that could really fit me well.”
Oregon Ducks
While Oregon’s staff isn’t planning on making a trip to see Hausen, he still plans to go see them on an official visit on Oct. 8-10.
Hausen gave his thoughts on the program:
“I’ve consistently seen them win the past few years and be in the tournament,” Hausen said. “Payton Pritchard is a guy I’ve paid close attention to. He’s a guy I think I plan a little bit like. Coach (Dana) Altman has it rolling up there. They talk about the connections at Oregon. Just the connection you have because Nike is up there. If basketball doesn’t work out, they can get you a great job and a great education.”
What’s a must-have for Hausen at the college level?
“The biggest thing is a family atmosphere,” Hausen said. “But not just for the years I’m there, but lifelong. A place where I can go and we are all one team. We all want that one common goal. It’s not just about one guy but rather the team. I want to go somewhere where we can win. Somewhere where each and every guy is held accountable and the first guy off the bench and the last guy off the bench, are just as important.”
Hausen hopes to make a college decision in November.
