The Virginia Tech Hokies are hoping to get sixth-year tight end Nick Gallo back this season. However, head coach Brent Pry seems to think that the odds he’s ready for the start of the season are only about 50-50 at this point.

As Pry recently explained, Gallo is working hard to get ready for the season. However, he just doesn’t know if he’ll be ready in time.

“I think he still could be,” Brent Pry said. “He’s not 100 percent right now. Hopefully, he can get there. He hasn’t gotten a ton of work this camp. So, he’s obviously behind to a degree. But I’d say we’re 50-50 if he’s out there playing for us against Vanderbilt.”

Nick Gallo has been dealing with a knee injury since Fall Camp ahead of the 2023 season. In September, he would have season-ending surgery that he’s working his way back from now. Despite that injury, he remained a captain for the 2023 season. If he can make his way back, it would add another massive weapon to the Hokies’ offense.

First coming to Virginia Tech in the 2019 recruiting cycle, Nick Gallo was a three-star recruit, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 37th-ranked tight end that cycle.

In 46 career games at Virginia Tech, Nick Gallo has 55 career receptions for 469 yards and a touchdown. However, he hasn’t played since 2022. Brent Pry took over as the head coach at Virginia Tech in 2022, making this the pair’s third season together. Pry has a 10-14 record to this point but seemed to take a step forward in the second half of the 2023 season.

Brent Pry expresses excitement over Virginia Tech getting Ali Jennings back for another year

One player who Brent Pry and Virginia Tech are getting back for 2024 is Ali Jennings. The wide receiver had his 2023 season cut short due to injury. Now, Pry is happy to have him back.

“First of all, he’s got such a big personality that, no, it’s not like he just joined us. He’s been fully invested. He’s been with us a while. I wouldn’t say that. I think we’re all excited to see a complete year out of Ali, what he’s really capable of. He’s one of those guys that you come out to practice and you go, ‘Okay, good guy, good player, solid guy.’ And you go out and watch him on Saturdays, and that’s kind of been his career. He outperforms how he plays on game day over practice, which is, to me, kind of rare,” Pry said.

“But I’m excited for him more than anything. I know he can impact our program, our wide receiver room. He’s an older guy, a six-year guy that has a lot of experience and a unique skill set. So, I’m excited about him, certainly going to help us.”
