NASHVILLE, Tenn. – On3 is proud to announce that Brett McMurphy, one of the most respected and accomplished journalists in college football, will be joining the company as Senior National College Football Insider beginning July 1.

With a career spanning over three decades, McMurphy is widely known for his investigative journalism and his ability to consistently break some of the biggest stories in college football. He has earned national recognition for his coverage of the College Football Playoff, NCAA realignment (breaking Gonzaga to the Pac-12; Oregon and Washington to the Pac-12; Arizona, Arizona State and Utah to the Big 12), coaching changes, new bowl affiliations/lineups and bowl bids and other news.

Among McMurphy’s most significant reports was that SMU had been selected to the 2024 College Football Playoff, the first leak of any bracket information in the playoff’s 11-year history, and uncovering domestic violence allegations against a former Ohio State assistant, leading to a 3-game suspension of then-Ohio State coach Urban Meyer.

A longtime AP Top 25 and Heisman Trophy voter, McMurphy most recently was with the Action Network. He previously held high-profile roles at ESPN, CBS Sports, Stadium, AOL FanHouse and The Tampa Tribune. In 2019, McMurphy was named Beat Writer of the Year by the Football Writers Association of America and nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in the Investigative Category for the second time in his career, but he was not named a Pulitzer nominee finalist.

“Brett McMurphy is one of the greats in college sports media,” said Shannon Terry, founder and CEO of On3. “His integrity, relentlessness, and proven ability to break national news make him a perfect fit for On3’s mission to deliver best-in-class college football coverage. We’re thrilled to welcome him to our team.”

At On3, McMurphy will contribute year-round national news coverage as well as regular video and podcast appearances.

“I’m thrilled to join the premier college football digital sports media company,” McMurphy said. “I’m impressed how On3 is absolutely ‘all in’ on everything college football related. I appreciate the opportunity provided by Shannon Terry and Will Crall and look forward to continuing to build on the momentum they’ve created.”
