Missouri expects tight end Brett Norfleet to be available against No. 24 Boston College on Saturday, per ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Norfleet was inactive in the Tigers’ Week 2 win over Buffalo after suffering a shoulder injury in Missouri’s season-opening victory against Murray State.

Thamel further reported that offensive lineman Cam’Ron Johnson is also expected to be available on Saturday. Earlier this week, Johnson practiced with a no-contact jersey.

Before Norfleet left Missouri’s opener against Murray State with an injury, he recorded one catch for four yards. The Tigers will welcome the sophomore standout back among their ranks with open arms.

As a true freshman in the 2023 campaign, Norfleet made 12 appearances for Missouri and started the final seven games of the year. He hauled in 18 catches for 197 yards and three touchdowns on the season. For Norfleet’s efforts, the league’s coaches named him a SEC All-Freshman Team selection.

Brett Norfleet and Johnson aren’t Missouri’s only players recovering from ailments. All-conference wide receiver Luther Burden III left in the first half of the Tigers’ Week 2 win over Buffalo and didn’t return. Wide receiver Theo Wease also appeared to suffer an injury later in the game.

After Saturday’s win, Drinkwitz revealed Burden was dealing with an illness and the staff kept him out as a precaution. Meanwhile, Wease suffered an apparent arm injury before returning to the game.

On Tuesday, Drinkwitz sounded optimistic about their chances of playing in Saturday’s matchup vs. Boston College.

“Both feeling good. … Luther’s, I would say, probable. Theo’s probable,” Drinkwitz said. “I’m not concerned about either one of those right now.”

More on Luther Burden III, Theo Wease

Burden and Wease were both key parts of the Missouri offense in 2023. They were Brady Cook’s top two targets, and their return as he returned at quarterback provided plenty of optimism about another leap forward.

Burden totaled 1,212 yards and nine touchdowns as a sophomore, leading Mizzou in both categories. As for Wease, his 682 yards marked a career-high after he transferred in from Oklahoma prior to the season.

Missouri handled Buffalo with ease in Week 2, coming away with a 38-0 victory led largely by the running game. All five Tigers touchdown came on the ground, led by two from Cook and one from Nate Noel, who had a game-high 73 receiving yards. Burden also had one before leaving the game.

Kickoff between Missouri and Boston College is set for 12:45 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game will air on SEC Network.
