Brett Yormark: Texas, Oklahoma will remain in Big 12 Conference through 2025
One of the biggest questions around Texas and Oklahoma’s pending departures for the SEC is when they’ll end up leaving the Big 12. The initial plan was to leave in 2025, but rumors have swirled about a potential early exit.
Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark provided an official timetable for the move on Tuesday. The two programs leave in 2025, as planned.
“They’re going to be here through ’25,” Yormark said, via The Tulsa World’s Eli Lederman. “They’ve committed themselves in advance of me getting here and they’ve reiterated that commitment. So they’ll be here through the duration (of the grant of rights). And my relationship with both Texas and Oklahoma is very, very strong. And they are full members and we’re looking forward to working with them.”

Yormark’s comments come after a report detailed the Big 12’s plans to build its 2023 and 2024 scheduling models with Texas and Oklahoma in the league along with newcomers BYU, Houston, Cincinnati and UCF.

Big 12 to finalize surprising scheduling model for 2023, 2024 seasons, per report
The Big 12 finds itself in an awkward situation over the next two years thanks to conference realignment. For now, Texas and Oklahoma will be staying until the 2025 season, while BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF joining for 2023. Scheduling has been a big question and according to a report, the Big 12 has found its solution.
According to Ross Dellenger for Sports Illustrated, the Big 12 has agreed on a temporary, two-year scheduling format for football. Although it’s a 14-team conference, there will be no divisions. “Long-standing” rivalries, such as Texas-Oklahoma, will also be protected per the report.
“Conference executives agreed to the temporary, two-year format during meetings earlier this week in Dallas, sources tell Sports Illustrated,” Dellenger said. “They have not officially adopted the model and are still finalizing details.”
