Brian Kelly on LSU's first two games: 'I know what this team can be'

LSU isn’t off to the 2-0 start it had hoped for but head coach Brian Kelly believes great things are still ahead for the Tigers. After LSU’s 44-21 win over Nicholls on Saturday, Kelly evaluated his team’s improvement and revealed his hopes for them moving forward.
“Each week is a week in itself. So be careful about the narratives of this team is this, this team is that. I know what this team can be,” Kelly said. “I watched them play against USC. They did not finish very well against USC. They need to be a complete four-quarter football team.
“We’ve got to run the ball more effectively. Certainly, I thought we did some really good things late. I thought Zy Alexander came in and competed for the football, had some [pass breakups] and I thought we settled down. Obviously, we had the one touchdown where we had a missed assignment on a Wildcat offensive play. But again, my perspective is this is going to be a good football team. This was a week that this team was taxed and didn’t play its very best and still won.”
LSU’s 44-21 over Nicholls was a bounceback game for the Tigers after suffering a 27-20 loss to USC in Week 1. In the victory on Saturday, LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier quickly found a rhythm and rode it throughout the game.

When the clock hit zero, Nussmeier boasted 302 passing yards and six touchdowns while completing 73% of his pass attempts and not throwing an interception. Nussmeier wasn’t the only one who picked up confidence against Nicholls.
Wide receiver Kyren Lacy hauled in three touchdowns while LSU’s defense held Nicholls’ offense to less than 300 total yards. Now, LSU must carry its momentum into Week 3 against its first SEC foe of the season.
