South Carolina vs. LSU Preview & Prediction

LSU head coach Brian Kelly is having to deal with a little more than just South Carolina preparation this week. Weather has altered the way the Tigers practice due to Hurricane Francine about to make landfall in Louisiana. After being on the field Tuesday night, a quick turnaround on Wednesday was required to miss whatever rain will roll through Baton Rouge.

Kelly even was delayed in speaking to the media during Wednesday’s SEC Coaches Teleconference. He was running the practice, one that started at 9:30 a.m. for LSU.

“We had a normal schedule yesterday which meant we didn’t get off the field until about 6:30 last night,” Kelly said. “We then came back and then got on the field at 9:30 this morning. So, that’s a pretty quick turnaround. We were here late last night preparing from a coaching standpoint.

“Our players had to come back in early this morning around 6:30 a.m. It’s a bit of a turnaround. They had the rest of the day off to recover and they will but they practiced hard, we were outside all day.”

The weather was not perfect for LSU on Wednesday morning but Kelly used it as an advantage in getting ready for Saturday. Some rainfall is expected at Williams-Brice Stadium throughout the game. Practicing in the rain might wind up helping Kelly’s squad so they are prepared for all conditions against South Carolina.

“We are expecting some rain in Columbia on Saturday so it’s a good preparation for us to be handling a wet ball and being in the wet conditions if we do, in fact, get sustained rain on Saturday. We did a really good job, I thought they responded well.

“The practice was what I expected it to be on a Wednesday and hopefully, this storm passes through without much damage and we’re able to get back to a regular schedule on Thursday.”

Hurricane Francine is expected to hit South Louisiana later Wednesday night. Areas surrounding the Alabama-Mississippi border are expected to be affected as well. Winds as high as 73 miles per hour could be present, potentially lasting through Thursday morning.
