Brian Kelly updates timeline on LSU injuries: Sage Ryan, Chris Hilton, others
With Fall Camp rolling along, the LSU Tigers are starting to battle a handful of injuries. Luckily, none of the injuries appear to be major, according to head coach Brian Kelly.
Luckily, Kelly said that none of the injuries were major and expects most players to be on a timeline to return to action quickly. That started with Sage Ryan and West Weeks, among others.
“Pretty good. I think we’ve got a grade one hamstring,” Brian Kelly said. “I think we’ve got a foot sprain. These are injuries that should clear up this week and have them back full go for preparation for USC.”
Sage Ryan is a versatile defensive back going into his fourth season with the program as a redshirt junior. After making 42 total tackles and defending five passes last season, he’s expected to have a major impact on the defense. For his part, West Weeks is a linebacker entering his third season with the program and played in 13 games last year.
The other two who Brian Kelly shared an update on were Miles Frazier and Chris Hilton. Again, both are in a position to return to action soon.

“I think we’ve got an ankle for Miles Frazier. Let’s see. Who else do we have…Hilton has got a bone bruise but one that we feel like he should be back this weekend as well,” Kelly said. “So, I think three or four guys that kind of [have] the bumps and bruises of camp but we feel good about their availability come this weekend.”
Miles Frazier is a fifth-year senior along the offensive line for LSU who is, again, expected to be a key piece of a strong unit. Then, Chris Hilton is a wide receiver entering his fourth season with the program. This comes as the program is seeing plenty of turnover at the position. For his career, he has 22 receptions for 415 yards and three touchdowns.
All of this comes shortly after the LSU team has been dealing with an illness running throughout the team. It was a “lower GI bug” that Brian Kelly said had a big impact on the offensive line, in particular. West Weeks was also among the players to be dealing with the bug. It, ultimately, made it harder for the team to fully practice and kept some of the players out of practice.
LSU opens the season with a game against USC on Sunday, September 1st. So, it’s going to be important to get healthy ahead of that game.
