ESPN announced the broadcast crew for Notre Dame at Florida State on Sunday, Sept. 5 giving it a Sunday primetime spot.
Joe Tessitore, Greg McElroy and Katie George will open the season in Tallahassee for the Sunday primetime matchup on ABC that is steeped in tradition – No. 9 Notre Dame at Florida State. This will be the second-straight season that longtime ESPN play-by-play voice Tessitore and former Alabama National Champion quarterback McElroy are partnering in the ABC and ESPN booth.
For the better part of two decades, Tessitore has been a premier broadcaster for ESPN and ABC’s coverage of college football, as well as the veteran blow-by-blow ringside commentator for Top Rank Boxing on ESPN and the co-host of Holey Moley on ABC. McElroy is beginning his sixth season calling games for ESPN and has studio experience on ESPN and SEC Network as well. This fall, George moves to ABC and ESPN games following her first two seasons on ACC Network Primetime.
Previewing Notre Dame at Florida State
Notre Dame will be led by starting quarterback Jack Coan, who graduate transferred in this offseason from Wisconsin.At running back Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree make up a formidable 1-2 punch.
On the line, most notably, freshman Blake Fisher will start at left tackle. At right guard, fellow freshman Rocco Spindler could see some time. On the defensive front, Myron Tagovailoa-Amosa will be a key playmaker up front for the Fighting Irish.
On the backend, Kyle Hamilton returns for what will most likely be his last season with the Fighting Irish before he departs for the NFL, where he’s expected to be a potential top ten pick.
For Florida State, this season is a big year for head coach Mike Norvell. Year 1 of the Mike Norvell era had a lot going against it, from COVID-19 to the roster left behind by the previous staff. The Seminoles managed to finished 3-6 but momentum is trending in the right direction between recruiting and the roster construction.

At quarterback, McKenzie Milton is finally healthy. He last played on November 23, 2018 before going down with a dislocated knee. Doctors found extensive damage to the arteries and nerves in his right knee and Milton’s recovery was extensive. Milton will be joined by Lawrance Toafili and Jashaun Corbin in the backfield expected to be one of the best two-back rotations in the in the ACC.
With Milton under center, the Seminoles will look to jump-start the passing game. At wide receiver, Andrew Parchment transferred in from Kansas and is expected to lead the receiver room. Others expected to contribute at receiver include Ontaria Wilson, Keyshawn Helton, Ja’khi Douglas, Malik McClain and Bryan Robinson.
The offensive line is headlined by Robert Scott who was a freshman All-American, Dontae Lucas, Dillan Gibbons and Devontay Love-Taylor
On defense, offseason addition Jermaine Johnson II could be a difference maker in sparking the Seminoles pass rush. At linebacker, Amari Gainer was the Seminoles leading tackler last season and returns for his fourth season.
Notre Dame at Florida State will provide a chance for the Seminoles to start the year with a massive win that can elevate them beyond their current timeline. Notre Dame has national championship expectations once again and can’t afford to come out slow against the Seminoles.
