Since the Auburn job opened, there have been numerous rumors about who the next head coach at Auburn is going to be. Among the biggest names thrown around has been Lane Kiffin, the current Ole Miss head coach. However, it can be difficult to tell how serious someone like Kiffin is being considered or if he even wants to take the job.

On The Audible, a podcast from The Athletic, college football reporter Bruce Feldman assessed how likely it is that Lane Kiffin is going to be the next Auburn head coach.

“75% chance,” Bruce Feldman said.

Stewart Mandel, Bruce Felman’s co-host on the podcast, immediately agreed with his assessment because of the advantages that Auburn has over Ole Miss.

“Way more money and people have won championships there,” Bruce Feldman said. “No one has won at Ole Miss. No one has gotten close to winning at Ole Miss.”

Mandel also pointed out that playing against Nick Saban in the Iron Bowl would be an exciting opportunity for Kiffin. So, because of that and the resources that Auburn can offer, it’s a better job for Kiffin than Ole Miss would be.

Lane Kiffin is very excited about Ole Miss’ future

Amid rumors that he might be on the move to Auburn, Lane Kiffin has tried to keep the focus on Ole Miss. That included talking about how he’s excited about Ole Miss’ future.

“I’m very happy here…Very happy here and appreciative of the leadership here. I love being here. There’s a lot of people coming back (next year), a lot of good guys coming back. Very excited about the future,” Lane Kiffin said.

Is Kiffin distracted?

Ole Miss was beaten badly by Arkansas on Saturday. This, naturally, led to questions about where his head is right now. Is he already mentally at Auburn? Kiffin doesn’t think so, instead pointing out an Alabama hangover instead.

“I don’t know. I mean a lot of analytics about Alabama hangovers,” Lane Kiffin said.

“Ask LSU who came in here last week and whatever, scored 13 points against these guys. So maybe there was some of that. But I think really we didn’t play well on defense, obviously, and we didn’t play well on offense in a lot of areas.”
