Buzz Williams’ Texas A&M squad fell to Mark Pope’s Kentucky Wildcats on Tuesday evening, but the Aggies leader had nothing but praise for his SEC counterpart afterwards.

Kentucky is 14-3 on the season after their win against Texas A&M, as they took down Williams’ team, which possessed a ton of momentum heading into the game. They’re now 3-1 inside the SEC as well, and the Aggies coach believes the Wildcats can go very, very far when it’s all said and done.

“They’re good enough to win the national championship,” Williams said of Kentucky, via his postgame press conference following Texas A&M’s loss to the Wildcats. “… I think they play with great spirit. I think their coach has a phenomenal spirit. I think how he leads is the appropriate way, in 2025. You can tell. You can tell how they compete. You can tell how they play. You can tell watching their huddles. You can tell how they’re in and out of substitutions.

“That spirit, I know it’s not a stat, but I think the spirit is probably just as important as the stats, just from listening to coach and learning from coach, I think those things are correlated.”

Saying Kentucky is good enough to win a national title seemed obvious for a number of seasons, but the past couple of seasons have caused pause when it comes to the Wildcats. However, Pope’s first season in Lexington is restoring the feeling, as the team is humming in all areas at the moment.

Looking ahead, Kentucky will have an all-important showdown with the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday at Noon ET. They’re 14-3 and 3-1 within the conference as well, and they defeated Texas A&M over the weekend, similar to Kentucky.

A win over Alabama would go a long way towards Kentucky establishing their dominance inside the conference that has become arguably the top in all of college basketball. They’re always looking to climb the ladder, and the Wildcats can continue doing that with another win on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Buzz Williams and his team are heading back to the drawing board. Texas A&M has lost their last two games, albeit to some tough competition. Next up for the Aggies is a clash with the LSU Tigers, who they’ll welcome to College Station on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
