2025 4-star RB Byron Louis sets pair of in-state visits
Many high-profile programs remain in pursuit of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star running back Byron Louis.
Back in September, Louis trimmed his recruitment down to 10 schools — including Florida State and Miami. Both the Seminoles and Hurricanes have the in-state advantage and are hopeful to be in the running for Louis until the very end.
The Sunshine State duo are the next two schools that are set to have Louis back on campus, too. The 6-foot, 208-pounder will visit FSU this weekend (Jan. 20), then head to Coral Gables to visit Miami on Jan. 27, according to On3’s Chad Simmons.
It’s the Canes that hold the true in-state swing, as campus is less than 50 miles for Louis, while Florida State is on the other side of the state. Miami has also had Louis on campus more than any other program thus far in his recruitment, as he’s already made close to 10 trips.
“It was just great,” Louis told CaneSport of his game visit to Miami in October. “Especially the atmosphere at nighttime, with it being a late game, everybody was out here until the last second. The fans never gave up and never lost hope, and that’s what the team needed to bring that life back into the stadium. Everybody coming out to support, it was just amazing to see.”

Ohio State trending for Louis in the On3 RPM
Entering 2024, Ohio State is the team to beat in Louis’ recruitment, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). The Buckeyes have a 90.7% edge, as of Jan. 18.
Louis took multiple game visits to Columbus in 2023 and has continued to build relationships with the OSU staff since he was offered back in May 2022. The Buckeyes appear to be well-positioned in the race for the four-star.
“The game-day atmosphere was like no other. You can feel the intensity of the game through the fans both outside and inside the stadium,” Louis told Simmons after an October game visit. “The highlight of this trip had to be how loud the stadium gets. It was packed. Everyone was involved in the game from start to finish. The atmosphere and the tradition that goes into the game itself at Ohio State was beautiful.”
Other teams in Louis’ top 10 include: Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, USC, Oklahoma, Penn State, and Wisconsin. He is the No. 198 overall prospect and No. 16 RB in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
