BYU forward Noah Waterman enters NCAA transfer portal

BYU forward Noah Waterman has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned.

Waterman enters the transfer portal once again after making stops at Niagara, Detroit Mercy, and BYU throughout his college career. Departing for the Cougars program with one season of eligibility remaining after former head coach Mark Pope was named the new head man at Kentucky.

Waterman started off his college career at Niagara, where he averaged 7.0 points per game shooting 48.6% from the field and 42.9% from behind the three-point line along with 3.3 rebounds per game. Deciding to transfer following one season with the team after appearing in just seven games with five starts after sustaining a season ending injury.

He became eligible in the middle of the 2020 season for Detroit Mercy after transferring in during the offseason, averaging a career-high 11.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. Waterman appeared in just 15 games and made 12 starts that season, but still managed to tie the team lead for total blocks while also posting career career-high shooting percentages. Boasting a 55.5% field goal percentage and a 52.8% three-point percentage.

Waterman would average 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in the following season for Titans before deciding to transfer again following the season. Joining BYU with 43 games appearances and 34 starts in his college career.

For the Cougars in 2022, Waterman averaged just 4.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game as a role player, coming off of the bench in all but 14 of his 33 game appearances. But this past season he’d have his strongest year to date for BYU, starting in all 33 games with 9.5 points and a career-high 5.4 rebounds per game.

Waterman played high school basketball at Finger Lakes Christian School in Savannah (NY) where he was an unranked, unrated recruit in the 2019 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The 6-foot-11 forward will bring experience, size, and versatility on both ends of the floor to whichever team he decides to join this offseason. And with his connection to Kentucky’s new head coach after playing for him the past two seasons, many will expect the Wildcats to take interest in Waterman as Pope looks to continue building his roster in Lexington.
