A college football fan turned to C-SPAN on Monday to voice his displeasure with the College Football Playoff committee’s selections. Inauguration coverage on Monday was interrupted by some college football talk as the caller complained about Alabama being left out of the CFP.

“I’m a bit disappointed in how the election turned out,” the caller says. “While I’m disappointed in the American people… I’m a bit more disappointed in the selection committee for not picking Alabama for the College Football Playoff finals, … Truly dark times in America.”

The call was one you would expect to hear on the Paul Finebaum Show, not on C-SPAN’s coverage of the inauguration. With that said, it’s no secret that college football fans are passionate.

Alabama being left out of the College Football Playoff was one of the biggest stories of the college football season. The Crimson Tide had really good wins over Georgia, LSU and South Carolina, but they also had bad losses to Oklahoma and Vanderbilt.

Alabama fans were even more upset with being left out of the CFP after SMU and Indiana were blown out in first-round games, but the Crimson Tide then turned around and lost to Michigan in their bowl game, hurting any argument for Kalen DeBoer’s squad.

Still, there were some fans upset, including one who called into C-SPAN on Monday.

Nick Saban blames College Football Playoff ‘letdown’ on Alabama loss to Michigan

ESPN college football analyst and former Alabama coach Nick Saban believes the Crimson Tide lost to Michigan because they weren’t over being left out of the College Football Playoff.

“Turnovers just kill you in a game, and obviously Alabama had two or three of them early in the game. Michigan’s guys played well in the game. I don’t think Alabama did,” Saban said on ESPN College GameDay. “I think one of the big things that’s always been an issue is for all these teams that have a chance to get in the Playoffs and don’t, it’s always a huge letdown when you go play — not to take anything away from Michigan — a huge letdown when you play in a bowl game.”

The 11th-ranked Crimson Tide was controversially pushed out of the College Football Playoff’s 12-team field on Selection Day in favor of No. 10 SMU, which dropped just two spots from the penultimate rankings the week before following a 34-31 loss to No. 16 Clemson in the ACC championship game.
