Cade Klubnik calls it an 'honor' to face Georgia in Week 1
The Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs are set to meet in Week 1 of the college football season. It’s a marquee matchup that Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik is calling an honor.
Klubnik explained that he has a ton of respect for Georgia and that it’s a great opportunity to play a team that’s expected to be there at the end of the season, competing for a national championship in the College Football Playoff.
“Georgia is an incredible opponent,” Cade Klubnik said. “Definitely a huge honor for us to be able to face such a great team like that in an opener. Coach [Dabo] Swinney spoke on it yesterday and said, ‘Hey, you know, there are teams all around the country that are working their butt off for 12 weeks straight to go play a team like this in the playoffs, right? We can start out with them in a regular-season game.’”
Clemson and Georgia were two of the most successful programs in the four-team College Football Playoff era. For their part, the Tigers have made six appearances in the CFP and won two national championships. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs have been to the Playoff three times with two national championships of their own. That includes two out of the last three.

“So, to have that right out of the gate is huge and definitely a great way to start off the season and kick-start it,” Klubnik concluded.

In 2021, Clemson and Georgia opened the season in a neutral site game. That ended up being a 10-3 Georgia win in a defensive battle.
The quarterbacks in this game, Cade Klubnik and Carson Beck, are hoping to score a bit more than that previous matchup. After all, it’s become a marquee showdown for the two quarterbacks.
“It was definitely fun to hang out with him and kind of chat about it a little bit,” Klubnik said. “But he’s a great player, and [I’m] excited to kind of see how the rest of his career goes. Obviously, he’s going to have a long NFL career. So, excited to see him.”
The Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs will meet at 12:00 p.m. EST on Saturday. It’s going to be a neutral site game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
