Cal RB Jaydn Ott enters NCAA transfer portal

California running back Jaydn Ott has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos reported. He spent the past three seasons with the Golden Bears and has one year of eligibility remaining.
Ott has been Cal’s starting running back ever since his freshman season in 2022. He broke onto the scene that year with 897 yards and eight touchdowns to go with 46 catches for 345 yards and three more scores. He was named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team and all-conference third team as well.
The running back followed up that year with an even better sophomore campaign. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career to finish with 1,315 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns to lead the Pac-12 in rushing as he was a first team all-conference selection.
Ott struggled this past season during Cal’s first year as an ACC member, however. His total of 385 yards rushing and four touchdowns across 10 games where the lowest of his career, and he’ll aim to bounce back at his next stop.
Ott attended Norco (CA) High School, where he was a four-star prospect in 2022. He ranked as the No. 322 overall player and No. 24 running back in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Jaydn Ott is the 19th player to enter the transfer portal this offseason for Cal, which ranks as the No. 52 team in On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings. Although this past season was a bit of a down year for him, he’s still likely to command attention from Power 4 programs based on his first two seasons.
More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers. That means roughly 25% of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year.
In data gathered over the first two years with transfer windows, the NCAA found most athletes enter the portal within the first four weeks of the portal opening. The study showed that 73% of men’s and women’s basketball undergraduate athletes entered during the first four weeks. That increased to 82% for men and 86% for women in 2024.
