Duke OL Calib Perez enters NCAA transfer portal

Duke offensive lineman Calib Perez has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He spent the last four years with the Blue Devils.

Perez is the latest Duke player to enter the portal after Mike Elko left to take over at Texas A&M. He had 81 career snaps through the 2023 season and appeared in 11 games during his career.

Perez played high school football at Dawson (TX) High School, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,231 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Duke has now lost 16 players to the transfer portal this offseason while bringing in nine new faces. The biggest addition is quarterback Maalik Murphy, who previously played at Texas and came in as the No. 18-ranked quarterback to hit the portal this cycle, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

Earlier this week, wide receiver Mekhi Wall also hit the open market. He spent two seasons with the Blue Devils and will look for his second school. He found playing last fall in a few games.

Wall finished his 2023 campaign with six catches for 38 yards and one touchdown. Now, Wall will look elsewhere to play the upcoming 2024 season.

As a member of the Class of 2022, Wall was a three-star recruit out of Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the No. 21 overall prospect in the state, the No. 135 wide receiver in the class and the No. 857 overall prospect in the class.

The spring transfer portal window is just 15 days, a crammed period that could reshape the 2024 college football offseason. The portal tool was launched in 2018 to allow athletes to be more involved in the process of transferring. Athletes must notify institutions of their intent to transfer. Each school’s compliance team has 48 hours to put a name into the portal. 

After an athlete is officially in the portal, there is no rush on making a decision as long as they are properly enrolled at a new institution in time for fall camp. Commitments do not have to be made during the 15-day window.
