Former LSU defensive back Ryan Yaites will transfer to play for the Cal Golden Bears in 2024, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported Monday. He spent just one season in Baton Rouge and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Yaites played 13 games this past season as a true freshman on both special teams and as a backup safety. He recorded 16 total tackles and one pass breakup.

As a recruit, Yaites was four-star prospect coming out of Guyer High School in Denton, Texas. He ranked as the No. 276 overall player and No. 20 safety in the 2023 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Ryan Yaites is the second defensive back that California has added through the transfer portal this offseason along with former Idaho cornerback Marcus Harris. He ranks as the No. 392 overall player according to On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

The Golden Bears have brought in 16 total transfers this offseason while 20 more have left the program. That ranks them No. 14 overall and No. 5 in the ACC in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings.

California is coming off of a 6-7 finish this past season as they prepare to enter their first year in the ACC in 2024.
