California social media trolls Auburn, SEC following win
California took the opportunity to gloat on social media following a 21-14 victory against Auburn on Saturday. The Golden Bears not only came after the Tigers, but the entire SEC with their tweet of the final score.
Speaking on the win, Cal used the conference’s slogan of “it just means more” to describe the feeling of beating Auburn. You can view the tweet below.
With the win, California got revenge after suffering a 14-10 loss to the Tigers in 2023. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza finished the game with 233 yards and two touchdowns as the Golden Bears came away with the upset on the road.
Auburn jumped out to a 7-0 lead early but it would be short-lived. Cal scored a touchdown of its own on the ensuing drive, which would end up being the first of three unanswered trips to the end zone.

More than anything, however, it was the Tigers who lost this game with the countless mistakes they made. Auburn finished with five total turnovers compared to none for California. That included four interceptions from Payton Thorne, who completed only 52% of his passes on the day.
It’s certainly not the way that the Tigers wanted their season to start off in the second year under coach Hugh Freeze. They’ll have a chance to bounce back next week when they take on a New Mexico team that has yet to win a game.
As for Cal, the Golden Bears improved to 2-0 on the young season and will look to keep rolling as they next face San Diego State.
