Cam Coleman injury update: Hugh Freeze provides latest on freshman wide receiver

Following the Arkansas game, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze admitted star freshman wide receiver Cam Coleman was not 100%. A should issue has been bothering him just four games into the 2024 season. Now, Coleman faces a quick turnaround with a quality Oklahoma defense coming to town.
Freeze provided an update on Coleman on Wednesday, revealing he was still in a non-contact jersey during practice. However, there is hope Coleman will be feeling better by Saturday and should be able to play against the Sooners.
“I think he definitely feels better this week,” Freeze said during the SEC Coaches Teleconference. “Went through all the reps yesterday, still in a non-contact jersey. So, still a little unknown there but I do expect him to be feeling better by Saturday.”
Coleman recorded just two receptions against Arkansas, going for 15 yards. There was also a pass that went off his hands leading to one of the four interceptions thrown by Auburn quarterbacks. Not what you want out of anyone let alone one of your best offensive weapons.
Freeze admits the injury played a role in the poor performance. Coleman did not receive as many practice reps as he needed heading into the game and certainly showed when facing the opposition.

“He certainly was not 100% last week,” Freeze said. “You could kind of see it. More than anything of not being at 100% — combination of that and not getting the number of reps that is normal for him to prepare certainly hurt him and not playing up to what his expectations are for himself.”
If the Auburn offense is going to improve, Coleman will need to step into a bigger role. Three games have resulted in 130 yards on six receptions with the lone touchdown coming during the regular season opener against Alabama A&M. Coleman did not play against New Mexico due to the shoulder problem.
A huge showdown against Oklahoma will take place Saturday, with kickoff at Jordan-Hare Stadium scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT.
