Auburn freshman wide receiver Cam Coleman has emerged as one of the nation’s most dominant wide receiver prospects early in his career. He hasn’t disappointed the second he set foot on campus for the Tigers. But unfortunately, the team got some bad news on Coleman before their Saturday matchup with New Mexico.

According to Justin Hokanson of AuburnLive, Coleman was not dressed for the game while the team was going through warmups.

In his first two games, he’s been impactful, hauling in four catches for 115 yards and one touchdown. After his impressive spring and fall camp, big things are expected this fall and beyond of one of the nation’s most coveted recruits in the 2024 cycle.

Auburn did not need his services on Saturday night, as they handled New Mexico, 45-19. The Tigers were only up 17-13 at halftime, but they managed to pull away in the second half for the easy win.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Coleman was tabbed as a five-star+ prospect, and he was ranked as the No. 4 overall prospect in America. He was also ranked as the No. 2 overall wide receiver in the country, according to those same rankings.

Here is what On3’s Charles Power had to say about Coleman in February of 2024, when he tabbed him as a player destined to make an instant impact this fall.

Charles Power scouting report on Cam Coleman

“In an absolutely loaded wide receiver cycle, Cam Coleman has the case as the biggest freak of the bunch. At 6-foot-3.5, 185 pounds with 33.5-inch arms with elite combine and on-field athleticism, Coleman has the look of the most physically-gifted receiver in 2024 – that’s as a prospect with a late birthday who should technically be a 2025 prospect,” Power wrote.

“We saw that talent manifest on the field as a senior with Coleman catching 61 passes for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns while leading his team to a state title in Alabama’s highest classification. Coleman’s able to take the top off of defenses, using his burst and long speed to easily separate downfield. The Five-Star Plus+ prospect also has arguably the largest catch radius of 2024 wide receivers as an absolute mismatch on jump balls due to his length, coordination and leaping ability. The one-time Texas A&M commit is the headliner in a stellar wide receiver class for Auburn – one that should provide an instant talent upgrade for Hugh Freeze’s offense,” Power noted on Coleman.
